Old tried and true traditional methods of earning an income aren’t working as well as they use to, property is uncertain, share market is shaky and even many successful traditional businesses are suffering.
It is why so many are turning towards a home based business.
Hi I’m Delmae and it all started for me over 25+ years ago as a young mum a new baby in tow, walking our local neighbourhood delivering Avon brochures. This was my intro to the world of work-from-home mums.
Then came the feelings of guilt when leaving our children with a babysitter (even if it was only for one day!). Even so, over the years it became a common sight to see me at home with my hands in the sink and the phone to my ear making a business call.
Enjoying our children's first steps; being there in their teenage years when, in the moment, the short but critical conversation snippets occurred - made possible because I worked from home.
These are the joys of having your own home based business - where you call the shots - the flexibility, for me, has been priceless.
As a result I’m passionate about helping others create an income from home and share with you what works.
Here is what I discovered…
Myth #1: “Working from Home will give you freedom.”
If you believe you should be paid by the hour, you are bound by the hours per day you can work, no matter where you work – at home or some other location. It’s not the location that makes the difference, even though it may provide more enjoyable surroundings, it's the mindset around 'how' you make the money
Myth 2: “Costs a lot of money to start a home based business.”
It's possible to start with low inventory, low or no staffing costs, simple office location (home) minimal amounts of resources used e.g. electricity, legal advice.
Myth #3: “Having your own business or being self-employed will give you freedom.”
It takes a shift in mindset around how to create income. Reality for many is traditional small business owners, or professionals for that matter, often find themselves just as time pressured as when working for a boss. In addition to that, they find they have to take on all the risk and responsibility that goes with a business.
Myth #4: “You have to be highly intelligent or well educated.”
More and more people are highly educated with good degrees and still being retrenched and told they are too educated for the job. It’s not about how many degrees you have after your name, It’s about the mindset you have around ‘how’ you can create an income.
Myth # 5: “It takes a lot of time to build a home business.”
Beware of those business’s that require your attention 12 to 18 hours a day! Balance is essential.
Myth #6: “Getting rich is the ultimate goal.”
What’s the point of having a business just because of the money, if there is no real joy or personal satisfaction? Satisfaction and the joy of what you do is essential.
Myth #7: “You have to be creative to write a book, create a product or have a lot of specialised knowledge.”
You don’t personally need to create or manufacture the product. Let someone else have those headaches.
Myth #8: “All home based business’s are scams or illegal pyramids.”
Education is essential, to be able to distinguish, good from bad.
Myth #9:”You need to become a pushy salesperson.”
Let’s face it we all have to sell weather it’s our products services or simply selling a spouse or child on putting their clothes away!
When you speak authentically, reach out and connect with people around a problem you can help them solve - you build trust. Selling will be a joy and you will inspire people to work with you or buy your products or services.
Myth #10 “You have to sell your heart and soul to be in business”
When you are contributing more to others, knowing that your home based business/ products or service can positively impact their financial or physical well being. You can truly be aligned with your heart and soul and still make money.
